The concrete was laid for our farmhouse and they quickly started framing the rooms. But the foundation for our family’s home was not laid yet.
We wanted to hide God’s word in our heart and our home, so we had a little framing party. I found a few ideas when I googled: Blessing Your Home, Scripture for each room of your house, & Verses for the doorframes.
The idea comes from Deut 16:5-9 where Moses gave God’s command that the Israelites were to write God’s word on their doorposts so they could keep God’s laws and love the Lord their God with all their heart and soul. We literally did just that as a family.
I knew our handwriting would be sheet rocked and painted over. But we would still know it’s there. And I’m relying on God’s promise that His word never returns void.
We spent time praying each verse out loud, writing them on the frame of the doorway or each room the Bible verse applied to. I wrote specific scriptures above where Barry and I will lay our heads each night and in Gabrielle’s room, her closet and her bathroom. I wrote verses in our kitchen and got a little choked up about how sweet God was to us.
Even with mud and nails and the smell of raw wood, this place was starting to feel like our home.
We wanted to “do what was right and good in God’s sight, so all will go well with us. Then we will occupy the good land God has promised us.”
